Introduction
Este Sitio, tiene como finalidad mostrar ejemplos del arte producido en Bolivia en la última década. La presente selección se limita a obras producidas en estos últimos 13 años debido a tres razones. La primera: No nos compete plantearnos el difícil problema de determinar cuándo comienza la "actualidad" en Bolivia. La segunda: El espacio a disposición no nos permite presentar una visión total o definitiva del arte boliviano contemporáneo. La tercera: Consideramos que el arte anterior a 1989, especialmente la pintura, fué adecuadamente presentado y suficientemente analizado, aunque no agotado, en diversos ensayos en el magnífico libro de Pedro Querejazu et.al. "Pintura Boliviana Siglo XX" (Banco Hipotecario Nacional. La Paz 1989).
En este sitio, se ha dado preferencia a trabajos que a nuestro subjetivo entender han significado algún cambio o aporte al arte boliviano entre 1989 y el 2002, y muy en particular a obras que caracterizan tendencias estéticas que aparecieron después de 1989.
Esta presentación no pretende en absoluto ser completa y tampoco es una revisión de las carreras de los artistas sino simplemente un muestrario de obras que podrían tal vez considerarse representativas de su labor en el mencionado período. Por razones ajenas a nuestra voluntad hay algunas pocas pero inevitables ausencias. Esperamos que en una segunda edición se subsane tan lamentable deficiencia.
Este sitio, ha sido estructrado de la siguiente manera: A partir del material a disposición, se han creado grupos o familias de obras con la simple intención de orientar al lector y facilitarle la búsqueda y el descubrimiento de las mismas y establecer posibles vínculos de afinidad estilística entre ellas. Los grupos no son excluyentes y con frecuencia se da el caso de que un determinado artista aparece en dos o más grupos.
Sabemos que el encasillar a un determinado artista en una familia o grupo va en contra del principio mismo de la creatividad y de la libertad estética. Esperamos que el lector comprenda lo relativo de este intento y no lo entienda como una categorización definitiva.
This Site has the purpose of showing examples of art produced in Bolivia in the last decade. The present selection is limited to works produced in these last years due to three reasons. First, we are not in a position to resolve the difficult problem of when “contemporary” art begins in Bolivia. Secondly, the space available does not permit us to present a total or definitive vision of contemporary Bolivian art. And last, we consider that art before 1989, especially painting, was adequately presented and sufficiently analyzed, although not exhausted, in diverse essays in the magnificent book by Pedro Querejazu, et.al. Pintura Boliviana Siglo XX (Banco Hipotecario Nacional, La Paz, 1989).
On this Site we have given preference to works that in our subjective understanding have signified some change or addition to Bolivian art since 1989, especially those works that characterize esthetic tendencies that appeared after 1989.
This presentation does not pretend in any way to be complete nor is it a revision of the careers of the artists but simply a presentation of works that could perhaps be considered representative of their labors in the mentioned period. For reasons beyond our control there are a few inevitable absences. We hope that with future updates such regrettable deficiencies will be corrected.
This Site has been structured in the following manner. From the available material, groups or families of work have been created with the simple intention of orienting the reader and facilitating the search for and discovery of the works and establish possible connections of stylistic affinity between them. The groups are not exclusive and frequently the case presents itself that a particular artist is found in two or more groups.
We know that categorizing a particular artist in a family or group goes against the very principle of creativity and esthetic liberty. We hope that the reader comprehends that this intent is relative and does not understand it to be a definitive categorization.
