La realización de eventos internacionales en Bolivia (concursos, bienales y talleres de artistas) así como la renovada participación de artistas bolivianos en exposiciones y Bienales en el exterior hacen que el período entre 1989 y el presente (2002) haya sido uno de los más ricos en innovación y diverificación de las artes en Bolivia. A principios de los años 90 se intensifica y consolida una tendencia, mayormente entre artistas jóvenes, a la ruptura con la tradición pictórica y una actitud positiva hacia la experimentación estética muy a tono con el desarrollo del arte en el ámbito internacional. En consecuencia, se amplía enormemente el repertorio tanto de las posibilidiades temáticas como de los recursos técnicos y materiales.

IDEA, TEXTO E IMAGEN
Propuestas estéticas que incluyen palabras escritas o pintadas, rompiéndo así la tradicional separación entre texto e imágen. En algunos casos el texto se incorpora a las imágenes para reforzar o ampliar las posibilidades de significación mientras que en otros simplemente las sustituye.

CONCIENCIAS DEL CUERPO
Propuestas estéticas que tematizan el cuerpo humano como límite entre el individuo y su entorno, como organismo biológico (procesos y fluídos corporales) o como soporte de discursos acerca de la imágen de la persona en la sociedad.

POETICAS DEL ESPACIO ( INTERVENCIONES E INSTALACIONES )
Propuestas estéticas que trascienden lo pictórico y consisten en la disposición o instalación de objetos de los más diversos tipos en un determinado lugar. Algunas obras incorporan el espacio circundante y lo convierten en parte del discurso estético, otras se integran al entorno y borran el límite físico ( y conceptual ) entre arte y realidad. En comparación a otros países esta tendencia surge en Bolivia relativamente tarde pero adquiere rápidamente un inusitado impulso debido a las innumerables posibilidades expresivas que ofrece.

EXPERIMENTACION Y (NEO) VANGUARDIA
Recientes propuestas estéticas que cuestionan radicalmente la comprensión tradicional de arte en Bolivia y exploran posibilidades de expresión mediante técnicas como la acción, el video y el internet.

The realization of international events in Bolivia (contests, biennials, and artists’ workshops) as well as the renewed participation of Bolivian artists in exhibitions and biennials outside the country makes the last decade one of the richest in terms of innovation and diversification in the Bolivian arts. In the beginning of the 90’s a tendency, principally among young artists, towards breaking with pictorial tradition and a positive attitude towards esthetic experimentation very alike to the development of art in the international sphere intensifies and takes hold. In consequence, the repertory of thematic possibilities as well as technical and material resources expanded enormously.

Esthetic proposals that include written or painted words, thus breaking the traditional separation between text and image. In some cases the text is incorporated within the images to reinforce or extend the possibilities of meaning that in other cases it simply substitutes.

AWARENESS OF THE BODY
Esthetic proposals that take as theme the human body as limit between the individual and the environment, as biological organism (process and bodily fluids) or as support for discussions about the image of the person within society

POETICS OF SPACE (INTERVENTIONS AND INSTALLATIONS)
Esthetic offerings that transcend the pictorial and consist of the disposition or installation of the most varied types of objects in a determined space. Some works incorporate the surrounding space and convert it into part of the esthetic discussion, other works integrate the environment and erase the physical (and conceptual) limits between art and reality. In comparison to other countries this tendency arises rather late in Bolivia but rapidly acquires unusual advance due to the innumerable expressive possibilities that it offers.

EXPERIMENTATION AND (NEO)VANGUARD
Recent esthetic proposals that radically question the traditional comprehension of art in Bolivia and explore the possibilities of expression through such techniques as action, video, and internet.
